Alvernia University will host a CASE District II Conference on March 5, 2019 funded in part by a CASE District II Venture Capital Fund grant.  The Conference entitled “Applying for and Managing Federal Grants” will be held on Alvernia’s beautiful main campus in Reading, PA and will provide critical information on federal grants and effective federal grants management.  With limited budgets for training and the ever-changing landscape of grant management- especially with federal regulations- this conference seeks to fill the gaps for those who may otherwise not be able to participate in such a high level training.  Grants professionals who attend will acquire information and competencies in writing, obtaining, and managing federal grants in compliance within the context of recent and more stringent federal regulations. In addition, colleagues from across the region will also be able to network and share professional resources.

Topics include: Basics of Federal Grants, Notice of Funding Availability (NOFAs) and Forecasts, Federal Grant Management, Policies and Procedures, Legal Requirements and Issues in regard to Higher Education and Federal Grants, and deciphering the 2 CFR 200.

Speakers will include several grants colleagues from across the District who have experience with Federal Grants from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education, The Health Resources and Services Administration, National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of State, and others.  Wiley and Rein, LLP, our featured guests, will present on federal grants legal issues and grants compliance.

Wiley Rein is a dominant presence in Washington, DC, with more than 240 attorneys and public policy advisors. This firm has earned international prominence by representing clients in complex, high-stakes regulatory, litigation, and transactional matters. Many of the firm’s attorneys have held high-level positions in the White House, on Capitol Hill, and in federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the Federal Communications Commission, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Federal Election Commission, and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The CASE District II training/conference will include a light breakfast and lunch.  Registration is accepted in person starting at 9:00am the morning of the event OR on line. The Program will start promptly at  9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. A “BONUS” presentation will also be included (from 3pm-3:45pm) to provide information and a Q&A regarding Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).  RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.

All CASE member institutions to include small liberal arts colleges, private colleges and universities, R1s, public universities, and community colleges are encouraged to attend.  This training/conference is specifically designed to assist grants personnel to include grants accountants, grant writers, grant managers, program directors, etc.  Cost of attendance: $15.00 per person or $25.00 for up to 3 staff from the same institution.
